Alfredo Gurmendi, MD
General Surgery
Dr. Alfredo Gurmendi is a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He studied medicine at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, and completed his residency in General Surgery at the Texas Medical Center. Much of that residency was spent at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
The challenge of performing technically demanding operations on very sick patients and seeing them return back home safely inspired Dr. Gurmendi to complete a second residency in Thoracic Surgery at the University of Oklahoma. He then went on to become the first Minimally Invasive Surgery Scholar at Boston University. Dr. Gurmendi is also a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons; the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association; the New Mexico Medical Society; the Texas Medical Association and he is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
