Heather Owens

Heather Dominguez Owens MD is a proud native of Las Cruces and graduated from NMSU with Honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 1997. She earned a Doctor of Medicine from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX in 2001. She completed a residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. She prides herself in completing a research project and having her first child, Lauren, while completing her training. She began her career as a hospital provider, being one of four pediatricians who established the Colorado Permanente pediatric hospitalist program, working in the academic institution of Denver Children’s Hospital, and doing newborn and pediatric care at a community hospital in the Denver metro area. She then moved to Napa, CA, where she worked in a busy private practice with both collaborations and continued medical education at surrounding facilities of Stanford and UCSF. She also had her second child, Marshall. She has since worked in Boise, ID and in coastal Florida as director of community pediatric hospitalists where she also maintained skills taking call shifts at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando. She was grateful to move back to Las Cruces in 2016 with her children and husband, Jonathan, who is an otolaryngologist with Memorial Medical Center. She joined Full Bloom Pediatrics and was thrilled to be invited to join as adjunct faculty at The Family Medicine Residency of Southern New Mexico. She takes her responsibilities of teaching pediatric medicine as seriously as she did her training and has taught medical students, nurse practitioner students, and resident physicians in an effort to assure the safe care of pediatric patients. In her free time, she likes to run, watch her daughter in high school soccer, enjoy her son and his varying interests, travel to enjoy food and wine, and salt water fly fish with her husband.
