Working Together to Save Lives

Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center (GCRMC) and New Mexico State University-Alamgordo
(NMSUA) teamed up to offer a free CPR classes to the people Otero County during the week of June 1-6
as part of the “Train One Million In One Week” program promoted by the American Heart Association.
Otero County is a lot safer today for the effort. Two hundred nineteen (219) residents took time out of their
busy schedules to attend the free CPR classes at GCRMC. Day care centers, volunteer fire departments,
employees and retirees all took time to learn the techniques that could save a life.

This event was made possible with the help of New Mexico State University, Alamogordo, American
Medical Response, and Region 11 EMS and the staff of the GCRMC Education Department



Pictured above is Dorsey Bonnell, the nephew of Gerald Champion and the person our
hospital is named after, that was instrumental in getting the first hospital built in our town 60
years ago. Gerald Champion died before the groundbreaking took place.
