Over 225 Nurses
The nursing department consists of five in-patient departments: Maternal-Child, Intensive Care, Medical/ Surgical and Telemetry Units. Other departments include the Operating Room, Emergency Department, and Outpatient Care Unit. Our Outpatient Care Unit is open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Our average census is 50 patients per day. Surgical cases average 300 per month, and our annual deliveries are around 620. The Nursing Department at Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center consists of approximately 225 nurses with support from nursing assistants and unit secretaries.
GCRMC is in our fourth year of an aggressive Preceptive Program for graduate nurses. The GCRMC approach to nursing orientation is different for our graduate nurses. When you join GCRMC as a graduate nurse, you are placed in a 6 month comprehensive Preceptor Program. Each nurse spends time in a classroom setting and works limited patient assignments throughout the 6 month of intensive training.
