Our new wing (with private family rooms) and family waiting room opened on August 22, 2010 .
The maternity service at GCRMC is dedicated to meeting your needs before, during, and after childbirth. Our unit offers birthing rooms where mothers can labor and deliver featuring the latest medical equipment in a comfortable home-like setting.
Our experienced nurses are trained in using the most up-to-date equipment and techniques available. While a safe delivery is our primary responsibility, we give careful attention to the emotional needs of you and your family.
Special Features:
Obstetrics:
- Five labor/delivery/recovery suites designed to meet the medical and aesthetic needs of patients, physicians, staff, and families.
- A Central Fetal Monitoring System. During labor your baby’s heart rate and your contractions can be watched even when the nurse is not in your room.
- Classes offered for both before and after delivery include:

-- Breast-feeding
- High Risk OB Clinic
- GYN surgical wing
Nursery:
- Well Born Nursery
- Level 2 Special Care Nursery for the infant who needs special attention.
- Choice of “rooming-in” or traditional care.
- Natus infant hearing screen testing.

Education Opportunities
Early Pregnancy Class
This class is offered for women and their partners up to 24 weeks of pregnancy. Class will cover physical and emotional changes, fetal development, healthcare, comfort measures for common complaints, and warning signs/precautions.
Location: GCRMC Conference rooms
Frequency: 2 hour class once a month-call for dates and times
Childbirth Education
This class is for women and their labor support partner(s). Topics covered include: changes in pregnancy, the birthing process, preparation/planning for labor and delivery, postpartum care and breastfeeding. We will also discuss different relaxation/breathing techniques, pain medication and epidural use for coping with labor. Includes a tour of Maternal Child Unit.

Frequency: 1-2 times a week for one month-call for dates and times

Breastfeeding Basics
The Why and How of Breastfeeding. Tips on how to make breastfeeding “work” for you.
Location: GCRMC Conference rooms
Frequency: One Saturday a month for 2 hours-call for dates and times
Sibling class
For the future big sister or big brother.

Frequency: Once a month-call for dates and times
Cesarean section birth prep
Covers planned cesarean delivery preparation, routine procedures, pain management and newborn care. Includes a tour of the Maternal Child Unit.

New Parents class
This class is for those new parents (after delivery) who are wondering “now what do I do?” Topics cover newborn care, taking care of yourself and getting organized.
